Care Worker, Caring 4 All Ltd, Eastbourne & Hailsham.

Purpose:

To provide support and assistance to carers and people with care needs. This will involve the provision of personal and social care, respecting confidentiality at all times within an equal opportunities’ framework.

What We Ask For:

  • Current and valid driving license
  • Must be able to travel to and from the Eastbourne/Hailsham area for work
  • As we provide evening and weekend visits, in addition to mornings and afternoons, all staff must be willing to work some of these shifts
  • If successfully hired, a DBS check will be mandatory. Please note, that having a criminal record will not automatically bar you from working for Caring 4 All; this will depend on the nature and circumstances of the offence(s). We are happy to         discuss this with anyone prior to applying
  • Basic understanding of literacy and numeracy, with good interpersonal and communication skills
  • A commitment to total privacy and confidentiality
  • Ability to work in a person-centred manner, ensuring respect and dignity is given to our service users, and their families, at all times
  • Experience is not essential, but must show a willingness to learn and undergo industry-mandated training, and to become familiar with Care Standards     legislation (training and/or guidance will be given as necessary)
  • Ability to follow instruction
  • Ability to advocate for oneself and others

Principal Care Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide a high quality service which will involve the provision of personal and social and domestic care as documented in the clients individual care plan
  • To respect the personal lifestyle choices of carers, people with care needs and colleagues ensuring that equal opportunities principles are applied at all times.
  • To work within Health & Safety regulations at all times
  • Respect carers, cared for and colleagues confidentiality at all times
  • Attend the homes of families or individuals and perform duties as specified by the line manager and as per the care plan
  • Listen to the directions and requests of both the person with care needs and the carer and wherever possible perform the duties consistent with their wishes
  • To enable service users to maintain independence by having an ethos of ‘doing with’ and not ‘doing for’
  • Provide a safe environment for those who need constant support, supervision or help

Administration & Training Requirements

  • Undertake training for specialised care tasks as agreed by the Registered Manager, or any ongoing training determined by individual needs
  • Notify the office/line manager immediately of any changes in availability to work hours
  • Report back to the office any changes or alterations in the client’s circumstances which may affect the service provision
  • Liaise regularly with the office/line manager other relevant colleagues
  • Provide flexible cover for colleagues in the event of holidays or sickness
  • Attend regular staff and appraisal meetings
  • Complete and submit expenses claims forms to the office by specified deadlines
  • Complete and maintain incident/report forms/care plans accurately and submit completed forms in a timely manner

Other Duties

  • Undertake other duties as may reasonably be required by the Board of Directors or Registered manager

There are also other duties you may be required to perform, based on the service user’s specific needs. Not all of these tasks will be required at each care visit, and tasks may not be limited to the below.

Personal and Social Care Tasks

  • Bathing in bed/bathroom/chair to include all aspects of personal hygiene
  • Assistance with getting up and going to bed
  • Assistance with appliances, including hearing aids, spectacles, artificial limbs, leg callipers
  • Care of skin and hair, including shaving
  • Care and prevention of pressure sores
  • Care of mouth and teeth, including dentures
  • Assist in the management of continence of bladder and bowel
  • Assistance with dressing and undressing
  • Assistance with mobility and transfers, using correctly any specialised equipment provided – after relevant training
  • Assistance with feeding and drinking
  • Administer only the medication as prescribed by a qualified medical practitioner and only as detailed in the care plan
  • Assistance with therapeutic programmes as agreed with qualified professionals and the Registered/Line manager
  • Provide emotional support to members of the family as part of a caring team
  • Supervise the person with care needs outside the home as advised by the line manager, with written permission from the person with care needs or responsible   person
  • Other specialised care tasks as agreed by the Registered Manager and as written on the care plan

Domestic Tasks

  • Making and changing the bed of the person with care needs
  • Essential laundry for the person with care needs
  • Basic shopping – receipts must always be obtained for every purchase
  • Preparing a meal and washing up
  • Basic cleaning as per the care plan
