Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a highly organised and motivated Business Support Officer to join our Planning Policy, Economic Development and Culture, Leisure and Wellbeing, and Climate Change service.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong administrative skills, excellent attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality support. You will play a vital role in helping several service teams operate efficiently, providing professional administrative, financial and technical support across a wide range of projects and activities.

We are seeking someone who enjoys working collaboratively, can manage competing priorities, and takes pride in providing excellent customer service to colleagues, councillors, partners and members of the public.

What will the role involve? 

As a Business Support Officer, you will provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to several key Council services. Your responsibilities will include

–      Managing electronic and paper filing systems and maintaining accurate records.
–      Supporting financial administration, including raising purchase orders, goods receipting invoices, monitoring budgets and maintaining financial spreadsheets
–      Organising meetings, consultations and team events, preparing agendas, taking minutes and monitoring action points.
–      Responding to enquiries from residents, partners, stakeholders and other organisations by telephone, email and in person.
–      Assisting with public consultations, recording and reporting consultation responses.
–      Supporting document preparation, proofreading reports and presentations, and maintaining project documentation.
–      Updating webpages, assisting with social media content and supporting digital communications.
–      Assisting with Freedom of Information requests, GDPR-related work and document redaction.
–      Carrying out research and administrative tasks to support service delivery and key projects.

The role is based at Vicarage Lane, Hailsham, with hybrid working arrangements available.

What skills, knowledge and abilities do you require for the role?

To be successful in this role, you will have:

–      Experience of office administration procedures and providing support to professional    teams.
–      Excellent communication skills, with experience dealing with customers and stakeholders face-to-face, by telephone and in writing.
–      Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
–      Excellent attention to detail, including proofreading and maintaining accurate records.
–      Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
–      Good numerical skills with the ability to analyse information and maintain financial records.
–      The ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a team.
–      Experience of using websites, social media or other digital communication channels.
–      GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
–      A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.

Knowledge of local government services and experience working in a financial or administrative support environment would be advantageous.
