Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a proactive and community focused individual to join our Tenancy and Estates team as an Estate Warden. This is a frontline, customer facing role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, engaging with residents, and making a visible difference in local communities.
You will be a confident communicator with a friendly and approachable manner, able to build positive relationships with tenants, colleagues, and partner agencies. The ideal candidate will be practical, resilient, and able to work independently, often making decisions on the spot in response to incidents or emergencies.
We are seeking someone with experience in a customer focused environment who takes pride in maintaining high standards across housing estates. A flexible, “can do” attitude is essential, along with a strong sense of responsibility for community safety and service delivery.
What will the role involve?
As an Estate Warden, you will play a key role in maintaining safe, clean, and well managed housing estates across the district. This is a varied and active role combining estate inspections, resident engagement, and enforcement responsibilities.
Key aspects of the role include:
– Carrying out regular patrols to provide a visible presence and promote community safety.
– Responding promptly to reports of anti-social behaviour and working with partners such as the police where required.
– Completing monthly fire risk assessments and ensuring compliance with safety regulations
– Maintaining communal areas, including reporting and addressing issues such as fly tipping, graffiti, and vandalism.
– Supporting Housing Officers and deputising where necessary.
– Serving Community Protection Warnings and Notices in line with legislation.
– Attending incidents, gathering evidence, and providing witness statements where needed.
– Undertaking minor repairs and assisting with property and estate inspections.
– Liaising with residents, contractors, and other services to resolve issues efficiently.
The role is primarily field-based with a hybrid working arrangement and an office base in Hailsham. A council vehicle will be provided. Flexibility is required, including occasional evening work.
What skills, knowledge and abilities do you require for the role?
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following:
– Experience delivering a frontline, customer focused service.
– Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with residents and colleagues.
– Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
– Good organisational skills, including maintaining accurate records and reports.
– Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
– A positive, flexible approach and willingness to learn new systems and processes.
– Ability to carry out physical tasks, such as lifting and handling.
– Full clean driving licence.
– Good spoken English (essential for a public facing role).
– Knowledge of housing, local government services and estate management is desirable, along with any relevant qualifications in building or grounds maintenance.
